Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

To look at what are the best educational toys and games for children lets look at their development.

Children aged between 5-7 yrs , can vary in their developmental stages. Some  might already be reading books by the time they’re seven years old, while others might only now be learning the alphabet. In general though, this is the age range where reading and basic mathematics first really come into play. Any toy with numbered or lettered buttons is a great choice around this time.

During this time of early school years, social development is an important  learning as they interact with each other whilst playing. Learning toys that can assist during this development are board games, balls, skipping ropes, playing cards and many other types of toys that involve the participation of other children

Eight and up… it’s getting more difficult to categorize children by age when it comes to the best educational toys and games. You are the best one to gauge your own child’s level of education, their interests, their curiosities, and provide them with something challenging.

An idea for older children could be a sophisticated construction set that includes moving parts, which will  help them further understand the complex workings of the world.

Computers

In a world dominated by technology that is constantly improving, the earlier a young person can get familiar and comfortable with the computer world, the easier it will be for him.

Which brings us to look at video games. And there are a great variety of them out there. In my opinion many of them help foster or encourage violence in children. Having said that I also want to balance the picture by saying that there are also many good educational games available.  Children find these fun and entertaining and adults like them because they teach children new things and strengthen what they are learning in school.

I hope this has assisted you in you research into buying educational toys.
