If you’re a new parent, or getting ready for a new baby, you’ve probably read about infant developmental, or stimulation, toys at one point. These toys, also called baby learning toys, are designed to develop a child’s five senses. A baby doesn’t have fully clear senses for the first six months, and this includes blurred vision, fuzzy hearing, and hands that can’t fully grasp onto things. Baby learning toys are geared toward developing these three senses – touch, hearing, and sight – first before the other two, and specific developmental toys have these three aspects exaggerated. From black, white, and red patterned mobiles to musical toys that make loud or jingling sharp sounds to a variety of textures, toys designed for stimulation make sensory experiences exaggerated for a baby to start developing these senses.

Objects in black, white, and red is the latest trend in baby learning toys. Nearly any object in or near a baby’s crib is often designed in black, red, and white solid colors and patterns to stimulate a baby’s vision. Such objects include mobiles, crib and baby books, teething rings, and stuffed animals. Stimulation mobiles, in particular, add variety to this color scheme by having interchangeable cloth animals or cards designed in black and white. This can range from various patterned animals to cards depicting patterns, shapes, and baby faces all designed with black, white, and red.

Stimulation is done with textures and sounds for other baby toys. For the former, dolls and play mats are designed with various sounds that a baby will hear when he or she touches, holds, or rolls over something. For dolls, a cloth doll may have a bell inside that makes jingling sounds when a baby picks it up, and a portion of the doll, such as the arms, may be filled with a beanbag-like material to create a crinkling sound. The cloth of the doll may have soft ridges, like corduroy material, at points and be flat at others for a texture the baby can feel. In addition, baby learning toys may play music or make other sounds when a baby presses or touches the toy.

A child continues development up through the time he or she starts kindergarten. Using baby learning toys starts to develop and enhance a child’s senses from the beginning, and more advanced stages, such as developing motor skills and social interaction, can grow out of these basic skills.

These days children have all the learning advantages that children did not have years ago. Not only do they have the advantages but also they are now able to be portable with their learning tools so they can now learn while away from the home and on the go. In this article, we are going to discuss some great portable learning toys that will not only be fun but also stimulate your child’s mind as they learn.

One of the first portable learning toys we are going to discuss is the v smile pocket. This system is a toy much like any other handheld video game system, only geared towards younger children. It is a little bit bulkier in size than other handheld systems but it makes it easier for young hands to handle it. This system comes complete with its own carrying case, and car adapter/charger so it can be used on long car trips to keep your child occupied. There are plenty of educational games available for this system that will stimulate your child. Games that not only teach spelling and math but some that tell stories and others that will take your child on journey’s around the world and teach life learning lessons. This system sports a flip top and an easy touch-writing pad with a writing stylus. One can find them used online for around $35 or so with games included. Purchased as a completely new unit, this system can cost anywhere from $65 to $90 new.

There are also portable learning toys that come in book form. These books not only tell stories but teach spelling, language and writing also. They come with a touch stylus (or pen) that your child will run over the words enabling the book to tell the story as your child read along with it. The voice comes out of a small speaker that is mounted at the top inside the stylus or pen. This system not only reads stories to your child but your child can also learn specific words simply by running the pen over a word they do not know to help them pronounce it. Another cool thing is the child can also play interactive games with it also. This system is geared towards children 4 through 8 but the preschool kids are the ones that find this portable learning toy especially rewarding because it will help them master the skills needed before entering school. This is not to say that it is not worth it for older kids but the older kids mostly have already mastered most of the skills this type of system teaches.

Although most portable learning toys teach spelling, math and words there are those that do none of that but concentrate more on the child’s creative side. These types of learning toys let the child explore their creativeness in things such as art, music, and sports which is fun also. There are also learning toys that will also teach children about religion. Therefore, you see, these types of toys are not strictly limited to teaching fundamentals but also fun things too!

As your child gets older these types of portable learning toys get smaller and more advanced. Along with them being more advanced they also tend to get to be more expensive also. Like v smile pocket

When it comes to a child though, price should not be an object because you are making an investment in a life. You want your child to have every opportunity to grow into knowledgeable, responsible adults. This starts by teaching them at a very young age. If every parent invests in his or her children, it will make the world a better place!

We know that children enjoy building things, we also know that children learn far quicker if they are enjoying their education. Traditional educational learning toys have a role to play in your child’s early years but many are effective for only a short length of time as they are just not any fun to be using.

So what better way to teach your kids than with a toy that combines their interest in making things with a number of skills they will take with them through their adult life? Enter educational construction toys, construction toys for kids who like their learning to actually be fast and fun.

You are at this point probably wondering, how is it that construction toys for kids can make successful educational learning toys. After all, just knocking a few nails or screwing a few screws into a piece of wood doesn’t take that much up top does it. Stick with me here while explain further.

Some of the most important life skills that children use revolve around numbers. Addition, subtraction, fractions and everything else that at school, no matter at what level, most pupils find uninteresting and as such learning is labored. With educational construction toys the basics of those mathematical functions are learned in a natural, unforced, fun way. Not only faster than normal but in a way that sinks deeper and stays longer.

Think about it. With Real Construction toys for kids, they measure each length wood with the tape measure, take one measurement, add it to another, then subtract it from a different one to leave them with a final figure prior to cutting it with the saw. They check their angles with the set square, use the miter box to cut angles all while working on some project they have dreamed up all by themselves. And they do this over and over again, every time without even giving it a thought, as this what they have to do to build their model.

Imagine if this was in a classroom environment. Picture those rows and rows of sums they would need to do to achieve the same results, it takes me back to my school days. Don’t you think that Real Construction’s educational construction toys for kids will teach your child those essential skills quicker, while having more fun, than when they are learning in the classroom, which in my book makes them perfect educational learning toys.

If you are in need of a toy to educate, interact and enrich your child’s natural skills then these construction toys for kids can be an ideal selection. Find other information on my blog and be sure you get your youngster this Xmas’s top 10 boys toys predicted most wanted gift.

With your new-born, you are always extra protective and want to shower all that is under your reach-financially and intelligently. In case of toddlers, only parents can decide as to which toy will suit the best. In fact there are so many toys in the market that it’s difficult to choose the best for your kid. Moreover, all the range is not available, at hand, in the market.

Pictures puzzle intrigues and interests toddlers the most. Start with few-big-pieces puzzle and make your child sit along with you. Don’t ask him or her to play the game. Just follow the steps to solve the picture puzzle, yourself and let your child watch these steps to repeat them intelligently himself. You yourself will be amazed of the grasping power of your child. Help to reach his goal and clap when it’s done. This will certainly woo him to do it again.

It is always very time consuming to teach the kids about the animals and their kids. But like Funskool has an educational tool which has compiled all the animals and their kids into a fun-learning process. Similar educational-games include joining Hindi and English alphabets and their matching pictures together.

Learn Math the easy way. Few companies make the kids learn Math through counting, matching and taking turns. Bloch-building is one such game which consists of big blocks of different shapes, color, size and figures. These blocks enhance the constructive activity of kids and make them learn as to how to manage toys.

Radio Controlled Helicopters are a different choice of toy for children but they are stimulating and addictive. Some comments here to get you started, and help you decide whether to continue your research.

I have decided to include Radio Controlled Helicopters in my list of Electronic Learning Toys. So far, in previous articles and in many other places, I have mainly concentrated on Electronic Toys which are designed to teach a particular set of skills, as well as purely amuse like all toys should do. Radio Controlled Helicopters do not quite fit into this learning category, but they definitely amuse. The skills required to fly toy helicopters include persistence, determination and patience – and yes, these are skills as far as I am concerned. The main point here is that there is an extra challenge due to the nature of helicopters, which convinces me to include helicopters as electronic learning toys.

For most parents choosing a Radio Controlled Helicopter as a gift is not an obvious choice. In fact there may be some initial reluctance to go much further than picturing that broken vase after it has been hit by this dangerous machine! However, due to vast improvements in the make up of these toys, helicopters are worthy of consideration as a gift for children. The material used these days is extremely hardy and crashes do not necessarily mean extensive damage to the helicopter. The design of current helicopters is such that the flight is much more stable than previously; and the control mechanism is much more sophisticated, allowing children to learn the necessary skills much quicker.

This is not to say that you don’t need to be concerned about younger children playing with these toys. Although the normal recommendation is 8 years and above, it is probably better to envisage adult supervision unless they are older than 12 years. Most helicopter toys are designed for indoor flight, but in very calm conditions some can be flown outdoors. Your initial purchase should be with the purpose of your child flying them indoors. If they become real enthusiasts then outdoor flight with advanced models becomes more straightforward after their indoor introduction.

The main type of toy helicopter available is electric-powered, as opposed to gas-powered. Definitely leave alone gas-powered until your children have the expertise and interest to progress. One disadvantage of electric powered is the short flight time before a re-charge of batteries is necessary. With a flight time of less than 20 minutes and a re-charge time of about the same, some patience may be required. There is no doubt that the experience of users worldwide is that the enjoyment and thrill of flying these toys compensates for the occasional waiting required! Do not worry about buying the most expensive and sophisticated model, as long as the control has more than 1 channel and the helicopter comes out of the box ready to fly, that should be enough. Make sure you buy re-chargeable batteries and invest in spare parts where they are available. Take the time to get more information and do a little research.

More information is available from the links I provide, but I should point out that any links provided are mainly for UK-based readers, although there are other non-UK sources given.

How does your child learn? Do they prefer to climb, sing or draw?

Why do some children learn to read easily at school while others prefer to climb out the window? Some children love to color within the lines, whilst others become frustrated?

One of the reasons is children have different learning styles which are dictated by their dominant sense: sight, hearing or motion.

Children who are able to use their dominant sense thrive. Children who can’t may have problems meeting developmental milestones. So identifying and working with your child’s learning style will help them. Learning toys are tools to help children develop skills. When chosen well they complement a natural learning style, and so help the learning process.

Which learning toy should you choose?

A child will love playing with a learning toy which complements their preferred sense. A visual child will love a building set, an auditory child a musical instrument and a kinesthetic child a trampoline. However children need to be encouraged to use their non-preferred sense and this is where learning toys really come into their own.

What do you think your dominate sense is?

What do you think is your child’s dominate sense?

Take a step back and think about yourself.

Imagine you are at the beach. Do you mostly notice the vivid blue of the sky and the shimmer of the water? Or the crash of the waves and the high pitched call of the seabirds? Or perhaps the feeling of the warm breeze against your skin and the grittiness of the sand?

As we go through life we depend on our senses of sight, hearing and touch. But consistently you’ll find you are drawn to use one particular sense. We all have a dominant sense, or occasionally a combination of two, which is stronger and that we rely on more. And it doesn’t seem to be something that we can choose.

We learn through our senses, and our dominant sense determines what we prefer to learn, how we like to learn, and the tools we enjoy using. Learning, as we’ve always known, is not a one size fits all.

Back in the old days, toddlers didn’t have such a huge variety of toys, nor did they have television. They would play for hours on end and when it was time to sleep, they would go into a deep sleep. Some might debate that they did things better in the old days, but one thing that we have now that they didn’t have back then is technology.

With this new technology that is out, there are hundreds of toddler learning toys that can help to prepare your child for school. When you have a toddler, you might be faced with them being cranky sometimes because of teething and you might have one that has lots of energy. It doesn’t matter what kind of behavior patterns your toddler has, they should all play with educational toys instead of being put in front of the television.

Many parents make a mistake and put their toddler in front of the television for hours on end. Some do it because they think it’s cute watching them dance to the music on TV or copy the words they say. While some television might be good, it still can have a very negative effect on your toddler and parents are encouraged to limit how much they watch each day or week.

If you are dealing with a fussy child, give them a toddler learning toy that is bright and cheerful plus makes noise. There are building toys, electronic toys, classic toys, sport toys and lots of others that you can get now that will help teach your toddler important lessons they should learn at a early age.

Learning toys stimulate a childs physical or emotional development. They can do this by helping to teach a particular skill or subject, or by encouraging the achievement of a particular milestone in development. And, with the best toys, the child will have fun while realising their potential.

The sorts of things these playthings can help with include: fine motor skills, verbal and aural recognition skills, and problem solving.

They tend to have greater value if they are appropriate for the age of the child who is playing with them. And its been found that the earlier a child starts to play with educational games and toys, the sooner they feel the benefit. Its even possible to buy toys for babies, aimed at helping them to learn.

Play has always been a way of teaching younger kids the essential life skills – and basic literacy and numeracy ideas – but now, more toys than ever are designed with the child’s education and development in mind.

Some parents make their choice by the material the learning toy is made from, perhaps choosing real materials, such as wood, metal or wool, over electronic or plastic products. (Others, of course, swear by electronic playthings.)

Children have played with wooden items for generations, and these toys can spark hours of creative enjoyment. While wooden building blocks, for example, may seem simple enough objects, but they can teach elementary principles of science.

A child can learn that if a block falls, it will continue to do so until a surface stops it, while also developing patience, and basic hand-eye co-ordination.

Another guiding principle when buying an educational toy, is to go for a product relevant to something the child has already shown an interest in – whether thats trains, animals or cooking – since it needs to hold their attention.

If your child enjoys solving mysteries, for example, maybe a toy which gets them to solve different maths problems, to get the clues to a crime, would be ideal.

Many toys these days brand themselves as educational products, so be very clear on what the item will do, how specifically it will boost learning, and what particular skills it is aimed at improving. If you are in doubt about somethings educational value, ask the manufacturer or shop assistant.

Toys cause very few accidents indeed, and are generally incredibly safe. But look out for the kite mark which shows that the British Standards Institution has independently tested it, and confirmed the product conforms to the relevant British Standard for safety.

If you cant find something you like in the High Street, the Internet is a fantastic resource. Read product reviews, see what other parents are buying, chat to them online and swap advice and tips. The Italians say it takes a village to raise a child, but there’s no reason why that cant be a global, web-based one.

Look online to find the best selection of learning toys, in the shortest space of time. Internet deals could save you money, as well.

Learning toys are becoming more popular with parents these days, as parents realise that education isn’t just something for school hours. There are a number of reasons why learning toys are an investment that provide value to your child. In this article we look at why you should invest in buying learning toys for your child.

Early learning before school

As your child grows emotionally and mentally, you will need to do all that you can to support this process. When children start school, they should already be able to perform basic skills such as being able to wash their own hands, go to the toilet alone and they should be able to count. Most parents realise that learning is not just something that should happen at school, it’s a daily process that should be encouraged and supported with the use of learning toys.

Learning habits to last a lifetime

Parents who support their children in the learning process can often be setting up their children for a lifetime of learning. The more complex and taxing problems that will need to be faced as the child reaches teenage schooling will be easier to solve by the child that had learning as a part of their everyday experience. Educated children eventually evolve into educated adults who will perform better at university and work. This will enable them to provide for their families and to live a nicer lifestyle than might otherwise be afforded to them.

Educated Kids are Less Likely to Divorce

A study performed at Stanford University in the 1970 involving marshmallows conduced that children who have basic skills from being educated at home before they attended school were less likely to divorce and more likely to live longer. Parents should do all that they can for the children’s educational level and this will include the supply of learning toys and books.

The more exciting and colourful the learning toys are, the more they will engage your child. Making learning enjoyable is one of the concepts that have been recognised to be of benefit to adults in addition to young children. The more advanced that children are in their education, the more opportunities the child will get as a child and as an adult. They will be offered a place at a better school and this should eventually lead to a better job than they might otherwise have secured with less education.

When you think about whether you should purchase a toy that your child might enjoy, think about how learning toys can be of great benefit in the long term life experience of your child. With this in mind, find learning toys that are fun and educational.
