“More learning and brain development occur during this year than in any other,” says Andrew Meltzoff, Ph.D., a professor of psychology at the University of Washington, in Seattle. “Toddlers develop a sense of self, learn language, and begin asserting their independence.”  Toddler hood is the best time to start building your child’s fundamental skills, motor and mental. And remember that this is also the time when your child starts learning how to speak

There are numerous toddler educational toys and games  that can enhance and stimulate their inquisitive minds and hasten the learning process, whilst at the same time, be lots of fun!

Your highly inquisitive toddler will be drawn to toys that come in bright, gay colors and in different shapes.

Wooden blocks teach them about colors, shapes and sizes and also introduce your toddler to patterns and dimensions. Blocks are wonderful for teaching toddlers interactive and interpretive skills at a very basic level. The development of their cognitive skills is also helped by them having to sort the blocks according to color, or drop them in boxes depending on the size or shape.

A Jigsaw puzzle is another great tool for sharpening the mind of a child. With toddlers it would be best to start with jigsaws of not more than four or five pieces.

Some more ideas are

Shape-sorting toys, animal puzzle toys, knobbly and squeezable toys, touch toys, stacking toys, bath toys, sand toys.

It’s also good also choose toys that require the use of their muscles.

Ride on toys, spade and bucket, music for them to dance with.

You’ll very likely find that the toy that tops the list of your toddler’s favorites is a plate and a spoon or 2 pot lids. You just cannot miss the look of total glee on their faces as they go bang, bang, and bang! Guess what, he is learning as he bangs. Improving on his hand-eye co ordination as he hears and learns new sound, and learns that when the spoon misses the plate there is no sound.

I hope this has helped you with your research into buying educational toys.
